Minutes

 

 

Voting members present: Urton Anderson, Diane Beckham, Kimberley Covert, Camden Gilman, Cale McDowell, Jef Richards, Rusty Todd, Brad Wright.

 

Voting members absent: Bill Cornwell, Brian OÕReilly, Daniel Parker.

 

Non-voting members present: Brandon Chicotsky, John Gross, Trisha Hanley, Ben Heath, Robert Inks, Kathy Lawrence, Todd Nienkerk, Sherri Sanders, Shelbie Stuart.

 

Professional staff present: Richard Finnell, John Foxworth, Jean Hogue, Dan Knight, Wayne Roche, Frank Serpas, Jack Simons, Jerry Thompson, Merry Tillman.

 

Visitors present: A.J. Bauer, Brian Ferguson, Jenna Harner, Kristin Hillery, Bill Laird, Rob Russell.

 

The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. by TSP Board President Cale McDowell.

 

I. Report of the executive committee.

  

Todd reported the executive committee met earlier in the day to discuss renovation to the TSP Buidling, the resignation of two members of the Board, and student payrolls for KVR-TV and KVRX for the 2005 spring semester.

 

            MOTION NO. 1: On behalf of the executive committee, Todd moved to approve the proposed

            payrolls submitted by KVRX and KVR-TV for the 2005 spring semester. The motion passed.

 

Todd said final figures for the renovation of the TSP Building are not yet available. The project could cost as much as $300,000.

 

            MOTION NO. 2: Richards moved to assign final approval of TSP Building renovation expen-

            ditures to the executive committee. The motion passed.

 

Todd reported McDowell received written notification of Brian OÕReillyÕs resignation from the TSP Board and verbal notification of Danny ParkerÕs resignation from the TSP Board.

 

            MOTION NO. 3: On behalf of the executive committee, Todd moved to accept the resignations

            of Brian OÕReilly and Danny Parker from the TSP Board. The motion passed.

 

II. Appointment of Texas Travesty editor for 2005-06.

 

McDowell reported one application was received for consideration for appointment of Texas Travesty editor for 2005-06. The applicant, Kristen Hillery, addressed the members of the Board concerning her plans for Texas Travesty.

 

            MOTION NO. 4: Todd moved to appoint Keisten Hillery editor of Texas Travesty for 2005-06.

            The motion passed.

 

 

 

III. Certification of candidate for editor of The Daily Texan for 2005-06.

 

McDowell reported one application was received for certification to stand for election for editor of The Daily Texan for 2005-06. The applicant, Andrew Joseph [AJ] Bauer, meets all requirements for the position as outlined in the TSP Handbook of Operating Procedures.

 

            MOTION NO. 5: Beckham moved to certify Andrew Joseph [AJ] Bauer to stand for election

            for editor of The Daily Texan for 2005-06. The motion passed.

 

IV. Certification of candidates for Student Member at-Large, Places 5 and 6.

 

McDowell reported two applications were received for certification to stand for election for Student Member at-Large, Places 5 and 6. Both applicants, Robert Russell and Brian Ferguson, meet all requirements for the position as outlined in the TSP Handbook of Operating Procedures.

 

            MOTION NO. 6: Todd moved to certify Robert Russell to stand for election for Student

            Member at-Large, Place 5. The motion passed.

 

            MOTION NO. 7: Richards moved to certify Brian Ferguson to stand for election for Student

            Member at-Large, Place 6. The motion passed.

 

V. Certification of candidate for College of Communication, Place 1.

 

McDowell reported one application was received for certification to stand for election for College of Communication, Place 1. The applicant, William Porter Laird, meets all requirements for the position as outlined in the TSP Handbook of Operating Procedures.

 

            MOTION NO. 8: Beckham moved to certify William Porter Laird to stand for election for

            College of Communication, Place 1. The motion passed.

 

VI. Certification of candidate for College of Communication, Place 3 [unexpired term].

 

McDowell reported one application was received to stand for election for College of Communication, Place 3 [unexpired term]. The applicant, Jenna Harner, meets all requirements for the position as outlined in the TSP Handbook of Operating Procedures.

 

            MOTION NO. 9: Richards moved to certify Jenna Harner to stand for election for College of

            Communication, Place 3 [unexpired term]. The motion passed.

 

            MOTION NO. 10: Todd moved to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed.
